Over the weekend, we made the move across the border into Kenya.

We drove over the sketcy Kenyan roads to the ferry just outside of Kisumu.  We took the ferry (ie. sunset cruise) over Lake Victoria and shortly arrived in Mbita, where we will be until May.

We live in a place salled S.E.E.K., or Suba Environmental Education of Kenya.  Its an old mission base that’s a kind of nature preserve now…it’s really sweet.  We are woken up every morning by the sound of monkeys playing on our roof.  We can walk to the beach in 5 minutes.

I swam in Lake Victoria yesterday (against the advice of several travel doctors) but have had no side effects since 🙂

We have an indoor toilet (Praise the LORD!!) and we stay in a sweet log cabin.

I can’t even describe how beautiful it is.

And the coolest part is that every night, the hippos come up on the shore to graze.  There are 2 cabins on the beach and we’re going to stay in them one night to watch the hippos come up to shore.  There are also bush babies and all sorts of other creatures that I’d rather not mention for fear of picturing them in my mind.  Keep praying against encounters, Nicole!!

Thanks for your prayers.  More to come soon.  I’ve been here 2 days, and I already love the place, the people, and the mission 🙂

That sounds like such an exciting place! I pray that God would continue using you guys for His glory there in Kenya just as He did here and in Uganda!

  3. I seem to remember telling you to stay out of the lake as well… Whatever, if God has kept you from those legless creatures (who shall remain nameless) then He can protect you from the microscopic ones as well. LOVE YOOOU!

  4. Sounds lovely and exciting. Beware of the hippos too though! They kill the most people in Africa each year…
